Navy strength rum is a high-proof rum, traditionally bottled at around 57.15% ABV (100 proof). The term “navy strength” originates from the British Royal Navy, where it was said that the rum was strong enough that if it spilled on gunpowder, the powder would still ignite.
Navy strength rum is bold, often showing rich flavors of molasses, spice, oak, and burnt sugar, making it ideal for mixing in cocktails like the Rum Punch or Rum Old Fashioned. It is also favored for tasting sessions due to its intense and full-bodied profile.
