James Nelstrop’s original goal for the distillery was to create England’s finest single-malt whisky. Pure Breckland water is drawn from the spring underneath the distillery and the barley is sourced locally.. The Distillery. In 2005, co-founder James Nelstrop decided to make a life-long dream a reality and submitted a planning application for England’s first whisky distillery in over 100 years. It was officially opened in the summer of 2007 by his Majesty King Charles III. Iain Henderson, a renowned distiller formerly at Laphroaig, led the distillation of the first whisky. The business is now led by James Nelstrop’s son Andrew who is building a legacy of exemplary English whisky with approachable, world class spirits.

Adnams Rye Malt Whisky is made from a mash bill of 25% East Anglian malted barley and 75% rye grown at the Adnams family farm in Reydon, Adnams Rye Malt Whisky has been matured in new French oak for at least five years.. Gold Medal at the World Whiskies Awards 2025 (and in 2024!). It has lovely aromas of warm vanilla, raisin fudge and black peppercorns with a smooth, rich, and spicy palate. Delicious on its own, or in any classic whisky cocktail.. On the nose you will find Christmas cake’s candied fruit and spices, marzipan, vanilla, chocolate, and black peppercorns. On the palate, there’s spicy rye bread, raisin fudge, honey, and hedgerow fruit. The finish is long, with notes of pepper, coffee, and a honeyed sweetness..
