Prosecco

Prosecco is typically made using the Charmat Method, where fermentation occurs in large stainless steel tanks, preserving the fresh, fruity characteristics.

Prosecco

Prosecco is a light and aromatic sparkling wine primarily made from Glera grapes in the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions of Italy. It is known for its freshness and fruit-forward character.
Origin: Prosecco’s roots can be traced back to ancient Rome, though the modern version began to take shape in the 19th century. It became widely popular as an affordable alternative to Champagne.
Production: Prosecco is typically made using the Charmat Method, where fermentation occurs in large stainless steel tanks, preserving the fresh, fruity characteristics. This method is quicker and less expensive than the traditional Champagne method.
Flavor Profile: Bright and crisp, with notes of green apple, pear, and citrus. It is often lightly floral and slightly sweet, with a gentle effervescence.

Bortolin Angelo Desiderio Rive di Guia Valdobbiadene Prosecco Brut 2023

£14.84
in stock
Enjoy it now, or within 2 years of bottling. No need to decant before serving. Bortolin Angelo has risen from humble origins, to create some of the best Prosecco in the whole of Treviso. The winery was founded in 1968 by Angelo Bortolin, the son of a farmer. Nowadays it is a family business, with most of the operations being run by his son Desiderio, supported by his two sisters, Paola and Cristina. The winery is situated in a prime Glera-growing area, among cool Alpine foothills. Some of the slopes are so steep that they must be harvested by hand. This is the approach that Bortolin Angelo take, before pressing the grapes in their sophisticated wine-making centres. A healthy balance between tradition and technology distinguishes this winery from the crowd. A subtle minerality shows itself on the nose, which is focused and clean with herbaceous notes, particularly wild sage. This wine is named for Angelo’s father Desiderio, and its grapes were grown in the esteemed Sommaval vineyard. The “saliz” soil of this location gives the wine a curious salinity, but not without the typical fruity notes of peach and pear. It is velvety and creamy in the mouth, with a pleasant dryness on the finish. Serve it chilled, in a large glass to aerate properly. It is excellent as an aperitif, but will also go well with refined Italian sandwiches, or finger food such as prosciutto and melon.

Bortolin Angelo Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore di Cartizze 2021

£22.21
in stock
Enjoy it now, or within 2 years of bottling. No need to decant before serving. From modest origins as the son of a farmer, Angelo Bortolin has created one of the most renowned wineries in the Valdobbiadene DOCG. Founded in 1968, Bortolin Angelo winery is now run by Angelo’s son Desiderio, and daughters Paola and Cristina. They are a family dedicated to producing top-class sparkling wine. Out of the entirety of Treviso, Valdobbiadene is considered to be the prime Prosecco-producing area. Its location in the Alpine foothills is perfect for growing Glera, as it creates a relatively cool climate. The environment is also challenging for growers. The Alps’ precipitous slopes make it difficult for machines, meaning that vines can only be pruned and harvested by hand. The Superiore di Cartizze exhibits a harmonious bouquet of stone fruits, with a discreet minerality and hints of jasmine. It is juicy in the mouth, with a satisfying density, and fruity flavours of peach and apricot. This wine has a long and elegant finish and is the perfect choice for an important occasion. Best served well-chilled, between 6 and 8 degrees celsius and in a large glass for proper aeration. It can be enjoyed alone, or with sweet pastries, light salads, or fish.

The Valdobbiadene Extra Dry is a pale straw yellow, with fine perlage shooting upwards through the glass. Sweet scents of lightly toasted almonds and white flowers erupt from the bottle’s neck, which is designed to imitate a twisting vine root. Notes of peach, pear, apple and light citrus mix on the palate, with some slight herbaceousness. It contains both a creaminess and minerality, with further notes of almond on the finish.
