Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is one of Napa’s legendary producers thanks to the so-called Judgement of Paris blind tasting competition in 1976 where the estate’s 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon took first place. The winery was founded by Warren Winiarski in 1972 after he left behind an academic career to pursue winemaking, studying under Robert Mondavi. Winiarski agreed to secretly enter the very first vintage of his wine in the Paris competition. At the tasting the panel of French wine experts placed his wine ahead of many top Bordeaux chateaux including Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau Mouton-Rothschild. As well as their magnificent Cabernet, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars also produce some stunning Chardonnay like this elegant example which is named after the Greek word for “graceful”. Fruit is sourced from selected cool climate vineyards in southern Napa Valley with the must fermented in oak barrels to add a creamy texture and plenty of polish. The young wine is then matured on the lees for 8 months in 30% new oak French barrels. The result is a light and refined Chardonnay with ripe stone fruit and citrus flavours carefully balanced by soft tannins, a generous medium body, and hints of spice on the long finish. There’s notes of pear, honeydew melon and hazelnut on the palate with a persistent freshness which makes this a great match for grilled salmon, roast chicken, or leafy summer salads with feta or halloumi.

After studying agriculture and viticulture, and experience as an oenologist in some historic wineries in Greece, Vangelis Gerovassiliou returned to the family vineyards in 1981, renovating them and replanting Greek and international vines. Today the property, which extends over 48 hectares, includes the production of native vines such as Assyrtiko, Malagousia, Limnio, Mavroudi, Mavrotragano, and some international grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Syrah, Grenache, and Merlot. Ktima Gerovassiliou White is an innovative blend of two indigenous grape varieties, Malagousia and Assyrtiko. After the harvest, the grapes are left to macerate with the skin, at low temperatures, for a few hours. Then follows the alcoholic fermentation which takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. In the glass, the wine has a beautiful yellow color with greenish hues.The nose is fragrant with aromas of exotic and citrus fruit, notes of green pepper, and delicate floral scents. On the palate, the wine shows all its elegant character. It is round, lively, and with a pleasant and refreshing finish that recalls lemon notes. Serve it chilled at 8-10°C and enjoy it in its youth. The young Israeli winery Five Stones is located in the Judean Hills region, and more precisely in the enchanting scenery of the Elah Valley, the place where the mythological battle between David and Goliath took place. Here the company, led by Ilan Hasson, with the collaboration of the winemaker Sasson Ben Aharon, and the other partners Shmuel and Yair Tamir, Ofra Ganor, Amit Kaufman, and Avinoam Lerner, produces delicious Kosher wines from international grape varieties. The white D vs G is a lively blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer grapes. This entry-level line is named after David and Goliath and also includes a red and a rosé wine. This vibrant wine has a bright straw color and reveals a fragrant and sweet aromatic profile with notes of litchi and white flowers, cut grass, some mineral hints, and white fruit. On the palate, it is fresh and well-balanced, light and lean. It is a pleasant and easy-to-drink wine with a refreshing and lively finish. Located in the valley of the Torto river, in the heart of the Douro, Quinta Vale Dona Maria was purchased in 1996 by Cristiano Van Zeller after leaving the family business (Quinta do Noval), to rebuild and replant the vineyards and make his wine. The property extends over 19 hectares, and the vineyard area includes vines with an average age of over 50 years and 28 different grape varieties. Branco Douro 2019 is a blend of native white grape varieties of the Douro, including Rabigato and Viosinho, Samarrinho, Donzelinho Branco, and Códega. The grapes are selected manually in an over 80-year-old vineyard located at an average altitude of 480 meters. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels at a controlled temperature. The wine is then left to age for 8 months in barriques and two years in the bottle before being released on the market. The wine reveals an intense and complex aromatic profile with buttery and intensely fruity aromas of grapefruit and ripe lemon followed by notes of orange peel and flowers. The woody notes linked to the passage in the barrel are perfectly integrated with the fruity aromas. On the palate, the wine is full and creamy, with excellent citrus freshness and ginger notes that enliven everything. The finish is very long, complex, refined, and extremely lively. Badenhorst was founded in 2008 by cousins ​​Hein and Adi Badenhorst in the northernmost part of the Swartland wine appellation, restoring an old winery. Today, the estate, which extends over 28 hectares of vineyards, produces excellent biodynamic wines. The Kalmoesfontein White Blend is made from Chenin Blanc, Clairette Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Palomino, Viognier, and Roussanne grapes, with additions of Muscat d’Alexandrie and Verdelho, all sourced from the estate’s ancient bush vines. Here, the work in the vineyard is manual and, after harvesting, the grapes are processed as a whole bunch and then fermented with indigenous yeasts. After vinification, the finished wine rests in a mix of used wooden barrels and concrete vats. In the glass, the wine reveals an intense color with lemon-yellow tones and a broad and elegant aromatic profile. On the nose, it opens with notes of mirabelle plum, ripe apple, peach, and pineapple followed by hints of vanilla and delicate sweet spices. The company’s vineyards cover approximately 15 hectares spread across several plots in Orašac, Kopljari and Banja. Matijasevic produces high-quality wines based on international grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, as well as some indigenous grape varieties. Sedam Hrastova (that translates as Seven Oaks) White is a blend of international grapes Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc, with additions of the indigenous variety Smedervka. The name of the wine and the deer design are a clear reference to the strength of nature and the love that the Matijašević family puts into their work. The 7 oaks are the trees that protect the vineyard, while the deer on the label symbolizes strength and freedom, and refers to the roe deer that are often seen feasting in the vineyards. In the glass, the wine reveals a clear and bright color with golden tones. Its aromatic profile is fresh and intense with citrus, pear and peach notes followed by delicate nuances of vanilla. On the palate it is soft and concentrated, with a lively acidity and a pleasant mineral vein. The finish is long and refreshing and recalls fruity and herbal notes. Located in Lozovik in central Serbia, Temet Winery produces high-quality wines from organically grown indigenous and international grapes on the estate’s approximately 38 hectares of vineyards, located on the hills of the Sumadija wine region, not far from Belgrade. The name Temet, which means ‘powerful wine’, is a reference to Roman times, when the vine arrived in this part of Europe. Ergo White is a blend of mostly Chardonnay with the addition of Morava, an indigenous grape of the Balkans. After a careful selection of the grapes and a short maceration, fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature for about 10 days and then completed in barrel. The finished wine rests first in oak barrels for 10 months and finally in the bottle for a year. In the glass, the wine reveals a clear and bright straw yellow color. Its aromatic profile is fresh and broad with notes of apple and pear, citrus and white flowers, and light hints of honey. On the palate, it is juicy and lively with a good structure and a marked acidic and refreshing vein. The finish is long with pleasant floral notes. The company owns about 38 hectares of vineyards that are cultivated according to organic standards and in full respect of nature, for the production of high-quality wines made with indigenous and international grape varieties. Tri Morave White is a blend of the indigenous Morava and Temjanika grapes, in equal parts, with small additions of Smederevka. The grapes come from vineyards with different exposures and soils, but all at an altitude of about 300 meters. After the harvest and a short cold maceration, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in steel and the finished wine rests on the lees for 6 months. The result is a dry, fresh, and expressive wine that recalls a Sauvignon Blanc with an exotic character. In the glass, the wine reveals a bright color with straw yellow tones and greenish reflections. Its aromatic profile is lively and broad with notes of fresh white fruit and gooseberry, herbs, and apple blossoms. On the palate, it is crisp, juicy and thirst-quenching. It has a lively acidity and a good complexity of flavors. The finish is long and recalls gently herbaceous notes. It is excellent with asparagus au gratin, creamy four-cheese pasta, deep-fried or roasted artichokes.

This Blanc de Blancs, from the winery named Raventós i Blanc, is a vibrant, elegant sparkling wine with a straw yellow hue and fine, persistent perlage. The nose is fresh and aromatic, with scents of green apple, pear, citrus zest, and white flowers. It is crafted from an intriguing mixture of local Spanish grapes: 50% Xarel-lo, 35% Macabeu, 12% Parellada, and 3% Malvasia de Sitges. Raventós i Blanc is a historic winery in the Penedès region of Catalonia, with a ludicrously long lineage of talented winemakers. The estate has been in the Raventos family since 1497, and it is currently led by Pepe Raventós, who represents the 21st generation of his family to toil in the vineyards. The estate is planted with indigenous grape varieties, perfectly suited to the region’s microclimate and chalky soils. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing – reminiscent of the seaside. It showcases flavours of lemon, lime, and green apple skin, which are complemented by subtle minerality and a hint of brioche. The grapes were harvested from a 40-year-old vineyard – the Vinya del Llac. This Blanc de Blancs will be perfect as an aperitif or paired with seafood dishes, such as oysters, shrimp, or sushi.

Cellar up to 5 years. The Neumeister vineyards offer some of the best locations in and around Straden. Each grape variety grown there is treated according to the individual needs of that variety and benefit from the unique microclimates in the area. The focus is very much on natural management of the vines including very limited use of herbicides, pest control via natural measures, and rigorous canopy management. The vineyards have recently been certified as fully organic. In order to achieve maximum quality control, several selections of grapes are made to ensure optimum ripeness, and, at the same time, cleaning passes are made to guard against any rot during ripening. Maceration is in steel vats and then fermented 5 months aging on the lees in stainless steel vats to retain the varietal characteristics of the wine. Pale lemon in colour, the nose tells you straight away that the wine has typical Sauvignon Blanc characteristics – intense aromas of freshly cut grass, green apple and a hint of minerality. On the palate, green apple, green pepper and gooseberries combine well with blackcurrant and kiwi notes and a hint of spice. The wine is dry but with mouth watering acidity that is refreshing and leaving you wanting more. The finish is medium in length and demonstrates a very good Sauvignon Blanc if you like a typical Sauvignon Blanc you will love this! Great as an aperitif, this wine will also match very well with seafood, creamy chicken dishes and pasta.

Livio began replanting the vines here, laying the foundation for a winery that is still going strong almost 100 years later, under the guidance of his children. The estate spans 228 hectares in all, covering a huge variety of terroirs and making it one of the largest wineries in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes grew with their roots in Ponca, an ancient soil rich in sandstone, which grants a strong minerality and distinct tanginess to its wine. Felluga’s Sauvignon Blanc is a brilliant incarnation of the varietal, shining golden yellow in the glass, with attractive green hues. The nose is pungent and summery, alive with notes of lime, yellow pepper, white flowers and spicy herbs. These flavours continue onto the palate, which is marked by a rigorous acidity and a fresh, juicy character. There are also notes of peach and pineapple to be found, making this a truly characterful and balanced Sauvignon Blanc, ready to be enjoyed by anybody. It will be an excellent partner for fresh seafood, or North Italian staples such as pesto alla Genovese.

Founded by David Hohnen in 1985 in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, the Cloudy Bay winery is located in a landscape of great beauty between the Pacific Ocean and the Richmond Range, at the entrance to the homonymous bay. Its wines, produced with the utmost respect for the environment, are the distinctive expression of a great terroir. The vineyards are located for the most part in Marlborough, which is the most important wine area in New Zealand for Sauvignon Blanc. Cloudy Bay Te Koko is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc, obtained from a selection of grapes from six individual plots on gravelly and sandy soils, and vinified and aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, the Sauvignon Blanc Te Koko shows a bright straw yellow color. On the nose, it reveals the decisive aromatic profile typical of Sauvignon Blanc, with perfumes of apple, citrus and tropical fruit, and some honey notes. In the mouth, the wine is dry and fresh with gentle toasted and honeyed notes and good persistence. It is a wine that lends itself to many combinations with food, including vegetarian quiches and first courses based on seafood, such as spaghetti with clams. Serve it well chilled at 10/12 °C.

Opening with enticing tropical fruit, pear and lime aromas along with subtle floral hints, this light and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc is an ideal choice for a summertime aperitif. On the palate the wine is crisp and dry with a racy acidity and medium body which complement the ripe peach, mango and grapefruit flavours. Thanks to the balancing freshness in the wine, this zippy white would make an elegant accompaniment to pan-fried fish, fresh seafood or even a selection of creamy cheeses. Honig harvests the Sauvignon Blanc grapes that go into this wine from their sustainably-farmed vineyard in the renowned Rutherford region of Napa Valley. Here the fine gravel, loam and sandy soils are well-draining and help to create intensely flavourful wines like this Sauvignon Blanc which reflect the area’s unique terroir. To express the pure clean varietal character of the Sauvignon Blanc, Honig uses two different winemaking approaches. A portion of the grapes are sent directly to the press as whole clusters, while the remaining grapes are carefully destemmed and the grape skins are left in contact with the must for several hours before the pressing occurs to enhance the citrus flavours and aromas. The next step following vinification is to age the wine on the lees for a short time in stainless steel tanks to add slightly more texture and body to the wine before bottling.

Founded in 1879 by Gustave Niebaum, Inglenook remains the crown jewel of the Napa Valley under the stewardship of the Coppola family. Deliciously fresh, but with added body and flavour. Terra de Cuques Blanc is a deep straw yellow in the glass, bursting with scents of white-fleshed fruit, flowers and minerality. After some time breathing, subtle hints of liquorice will appear. This white blend is composed of 60% Grenache Blanc and 40% Pedro Ximenez, making it a full-bodied, richly textured experience, unlike any other white wine you have tasted. This is only the second white wine produced by Terroir al Límit, since the winery’s foundation in 2001. It is the brainchild of wine-maker Dominik Huber and enologist Eben Sadie, hailing from Germany and South Africa respectively. They met while working on Catalonian vineyards, and have come to know the region as well as any local. The fruits for this wine were harvested from La Morera de Montsant, a rugged and mountainous region of Tarragona in the northwest of Spain. The palate is rife with rich, white fruits and summer flowers. It gives a first impression of rich, voluptuous character, before a nervy acidic side emerges underneath, with flavours of citrus and white currant. Terra de Cuques Blanc spent 6 months ageing in cement tanks before bottling. Consider pairing this wine with seafood, shellfish, or any dish with a lot of green herbs.

The Allram family have been producing sensational white wines in Austria’s prestigious Kamptal region for decades and own some truly exceptional vineyards in the prized Heiligenstein, Gaisberg, and Renner crus. Today the estate is run by Michaela Haas-Allram and her husband Erich who took over from her parents in 1992. The couple strive to produce delicious and elegant wines using the best quality fruit possible, which is why they practice organic and sustainable agriculture across their estate. This elegant Riesling expresses the complexity of their Heiligenstein vineyard which is arguably the Kamptal’s most famous site. The vines are planted on 270 million year old sandstone and volcanic soils which help to add grace and elegance to the finished wine, balancing out the rich fruit flavours. Full-bodied with a powerful structure, this is an intense and opulent Riesling that will respond very well to further cellaring. Enticing hints of white flowers, honey, orchard fruits, pineapple, and zingy citrus dominate on the nose, while the palate offers a mouthwatering freshness balanced by a rich and creamy texture. Ideal to serve alongside dishes like roast chicken, spicy Asian curries, or a selection of aged cheeses.

Franz-Josef Gritsch is a pioneering wine-maker in the heart of Wachau Valley, crafting white wines with incredible longevity and an undeniable aura of greatness. As an only child and a seventh-generation Gritsch wine-maker, Franz-Josef understands how to balance modernity and tradition. While most of the grapes are hand-harvested, the wine itself is created in a state-of-the-art cellar in Spitz, named “Kalmuck”, after the traditional garb that Wachau vintners have worn for centuries. This wine was sourced from Setzberg, a sweeping, terraced vineyard sitting on a patchwork foundation of metamorphic rock. The Riesling grapes are planted up to an elevation of 400 metres, on relatively poor sandy soils, imparting an amazing concentration of fruit flavours to the resulting wine. It opens up with a bouquet of pink grapefruit, ripe peach, plum and steely minerality. This powerful Smaragd wine was fermented in stainless steel, before being aged on the lees in oak barrels. The palate is fruit-packed – notes of peach, plum and citrus are driven along by a linear acidity. It feels full in the mouth, with an ever so slight effervescence. The finish is long, with exaggerated hints of spice. This will be an excellent pairing for Mediterranean food, white fish, poultry or pork.

The winery was officially founded in 1799, in a quaint, yellow building known as Mauritiushof in the centre of Spitz. Schloss Gobelsburg is an Austrian winery originally founded as a Cistercian monastic estate in the 12th century. The company owns vineyards located on terraces around the Kamp River valley and produces excellent quality white and red wines. The Riesling grapes come from the Gaisberg vineyard in the Heiligenstein area, in the three municipalities of Kammern, Zöbing, and Strass. Some parts of the terraces are part of the company’s oldest vineyards. The Riesling grapes for Sentiment come from several plots located on the outskirts of the village of Wettolsheim. In 1959, their livelihood took a revolutionary turn, with the marriage of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht began to bottle and sell wines under their name for the first time, and have since become one of the most revered names in Alsace. Nowadays the winery is under the leadership of Olivier Humbrecht, who is gradually guiding the winery into an era of organic farming. His family know the terroir of Alsace better than anybody, and the grapes that suit it best. They craft an incredible range of wines from Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and of course, the delicious Riesling grape. “Roche Calcaire” is sourced from several vineyards in the village of Gueberschwihr, which were planted by Léonard Humbrecht in the 1960s and 70s. The Humbrecht family has been working the Alsace hills for a very long time, but mostly as humble grape growers, never bottling or branding wine under their name. That changed with the marriage of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht set their sights on rejuvenating the region of Alsace. They collected several abandoned prime plots, some of which have become modern-day Grand Crus. The Rangen de Thann is one of these, a vineyard of the rarest quality, located in the most southerly tip of Alsace. This Riesling Grand Cru is a vivid, deep yellow, and exhibits an explosive nose of flint, gunpowder and apple. SoviNoa is probably the most representative wine of the company and certainly the most famous. It is a young and very expressive wine that reveals all the aromatic charge of this grape.
