Scotch whisky hails from Scotland, with written records dating back to 1494. It’s made primarily from malted barley and aged for a minimum of three years in oak barrels. Depending on the region—Highlands, Islay, Speyside, etc.—Scotch can range from peaty and smoky to fruity and floral. Traditionally produced in copper pot stills, Scotch whisky is distilled twice and follows strict legal standards. A key historical note: the Excise Act of 1823 legalized distillation and led to the rise of many iconic Scotch brands. Scotch remains a symbol of craftsmanship and heritage.
